Department of Pulmonary Medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases affecting respiratory tract.

  • The conditions under purview of this specialty include all respiratory System disorders like Asthma, COPD, Tuberculosis, Pneumonia, Interstitial lung diseases as well as malignancies.
  • The department of Pulmonary Medicine is actively involved in the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP).
  • As a part of UG curriculum, undergraduates are taught to take detailed history of the patients and examination of the Respiratory System. They get acquainted with procedures that are performed on out patients and learn to train patients about the usage of respiratory devices. They are also introduced to Spirometry and its interpretation.
  • PG residents are given thorough training on appropriate diagnosis and management of every case as well as hands on experience in various techniques like pleural aspiration, pleural biopsy, intercostal tube drainage, bronchoscopy etc.
